Ari Shavit : The seven-word formula
Talkback
Title:7 words too many
Name:non-Zionist
City: JerusalemState:
The proponents of "Greater Israel" who belong in the mainstream of Israeli politics (Likud and others) have for decades known that their aspiration is not sellable to many people within and outside Israel. So they`ve masked their position with all kinds of excuses. Domestically, what has sold best of all is the argument for security. I can only wonder if the author of this article is a propagandist of a victim of propaganda.

There is, of course, a chance that a Palestinian state`s military capabilities will force the Israeli Ministry of Defense to adjust its contingency plans; but surely it won`t need to buy new weapons for this. A Palestinian state, however, also opens up the prospect for peace, which is something the status quo cannot produce. So what Netanyahu must decide has nothing to do with 7-letter words. It has to do with whether or not he`s willing to give peace a chance by taking the modest security risk which any agreement will carry. The rest is propaganda.
