I liked the first part of the article.Would it be true that all Jews would call themselves Israelis. However When the northern kingdom of Israel was destroyedin 722BCE, the fleeing remnant that wasn`t taken to Assyria fled to Judea, and thus any Hebrew who lived in the Kingdom of Judah became a Jew regardless of tribe. Thus ancient Israel amalgamated into the new Judah and the second temple state was called Judah or later Judea.
You are wrong. Jewish nationality is entwined with Jewish religion and if a few apostates who wanted to remain within the fold created `secular zionism` that is not the fault of classical Jews.
Most Jews overseas don`t want to call themselves `Israelis`, thus the difference in terms. If we are `Israelis`it means that we are the Jews of Eretz Israel. The others aren`t Israeli. They are `Israeli citizens`. Perhaps this doesn`t coincide wit Western thinking . We are governed by classical Jewish thinking.
