People like Eakin (#6) propogate shrill and false rhetoric like "citizens of the U.S. view Israelis as cold blooded murderers". They construct their own images from the peculiar dark fantasies in which they delight. They will not be responsive to rebranding; they may be responsive to medication.
The problem is not in imaging but in the contradiction between the dream of Israel and the reality. What is a Zionist to make of Israeli govenmental policy that makes it difficult for Palastinains to get building permits but promotes "natuarl growth" in settlements, or demands that the Arabs who beat an Israeli bus shooter to death must answer to the "rule of law" but that a settler from Kiryat Arba who was filmed intruding on and shooting Palastinans should not be prosecuted. This is not the progressive new-old land that Herzl had in mind.
True Zionism and West Bank settlement are mutually exclusive. That`s the problem. |
