Hamas can`t be trusted, yes, it`s hardline will not accept Israel. But that does not mean that they become a stumbling block. Obama`s strategy has always been to gradually sideline the hardline, extremist segments and encourage the moderate, more reasonable center to take charge. The question now is will Israel under its right-wing government be prepared to take a leap of faith with Obama and help Fatah isolate and sideline the hardliners in Hamas. Hamas can be made to see what they stand to lose if they do not join in the deal. But this will also depend on the level of sincerity and persistence of Netanyahu`s government to make peace.
