Obama should prevail upon Abbas to call for immediate Palestinian elections. It will be understood that the elected government will be entering into comprehensive peace negotiations. The results of the election must be respected by all parties. No matter who wins the election though, all the major Palestinian factions should be able to participate in the peace negotiations. If this does not happen, then it becomes futile.
This is the only sensible thing to do and I am sure that Obama has already considered this. |
