| Let`s be candid. All Israeli governments regardless of their ideological color, right, left or center continued the settlement enterprise unabatedly. Some were more cunning about hiding its lethal affects on any genuine peace and were happy to propogate the status quo of no war/no peace which served Israel well for the past 4 decades. The first and second intifada were the alarm bells that this situation is unatainable. PM Rabin was the first to realize it, if fact he realized it as early as the late 1960`s. His vision for peace was cut down by one of his own. President Peres had the chance to carry the torch and forge ahead. He failed miserably. Netanyahu`s government between 1996 and 1999 was an excercise in diversionary tactics. Barak`s government which followed is the worst offender who squandered a genuine chance and demonized the Palestinian leadership instead of working to with it to bridge the gaps. To be continued... |
