| The Czechs and Slovaks, for all their cultural and other similarities, cannot live in one State. Same with the Serbs and Croats, Belorussians and Russians etc. Pals do not want to live in a State where they will be in the minority and dominated by a Jewish majority. Jews do not want to live in a State where they will be in the minority and dominated by an arab majority. Two States for two peoples will remove both peoples` fear of losing control of their destiny to an alien majority. Yet within that political framework, economic union, free cultural and scientific exchanges, joint water and other environmental projects and many other possibilities will open up. Jordan could join the economic union and, when they are ready to accept Jews as equals, Lebanon and Syria too. This would expand the volume of trade and create many jobs and a growing middle class. This is the only kind of justice and peace that will last and will mean anything. The alternatives are all castles in the air. |
