No, Mr Benn, this is not so. Mr Netanyahu is not opposed to a Palestinian state; he is opposed to a Palestinian state that easily could become, in short order, the cockpit of Islamic extremism, irreconciled to both peace and to Israel, and yet another launch-pad of Iran`s hegemonistic plans for the Mid-East.
This is what Mr Obama fails to comprehend: Israel cannot be expected to risk national suicide by deeding the West Bank, when the leadership and the mindset of the Palestinians are so riven by the question of peace or war with Israel.
Mr Obama, you will not get the `Palestine` you hoped for in your speech, just through your words alone; and Israel must not pay the price for failure on your part. And so I ask you: What kind of Palestine are you committed to help build; and what security guarantees are you prepared to give Israel, should your edifice collapse?
