| Rothschild was using terminology of his time and place when he talked about ghettos and religious fanaticism. Even he couldn`t have dreamt of today`s looney left or fascist right. But his central premise is correct: whoever runs the state will destroy it. It is not necessary to use Kahane as a measuring-rod of those out to destroy the state, unless his being on the far right rankles you more than anything else. Kahane was an aberration, imported from the USA - land of the free and the KKK - and the vast majority of his followers are also from the US, raised with bourgeois racist values, transposed to the palestinians. Until he appeared on the scene in israel, there was no violent racism such as he espoused. The seculars did not get their ideas from him either; theirs is a desperate response to seeing the rule of might is right go down the drain. They have been out manoeuvered by the palestinians but cannot admit it. |
