| Dear Mr. Aloni, Thank you so much for your very courageous article. The oppressed become the oppressors: again. What else is new? Technical progress is, but no one can change human nature. Stefan Zweig wrote in his `Erinnerungen eines Europaers` how the `Nuremburg Laws` had once impacted his aged mother. She was weak and tired easily walking, yet was restricted from resting on a public bench, a right reserved only for `Aryans`. State policy dehumanized Jews. Removed internally from normal society, through loss of civil rights,they were finally removed physically. The horror is still here. It is easier to torment and finally kill those we despise. Palestinians are Israel`s unloved cousins. Are Lebanon and Gaza mere preludes? Gaza civilians had nowhere to hide in their big open air prison. Video clips showed jubilant Jews - some in orthodox dress - dancing, celebrating on hill tops to each round of shells. A macabre sporting event - as Zweig (and I) wept. Thank you, E.B. |
