Hi kia, It is important to note that secularism is not foreign to Iran. During the mid 20th century Iran had close relations with the Soviet Union. The Shah was not very religious, and the "Revolution" was at first Leftist student oriented, & was only hijacked by Khomeini and his bunch after the "secular" revolution had all but succeeded. Remember Bani Sadr?
I also sense that you have created our relgious in your own image. It is not the Haredim that have fought the wars, but the secular Leftist gov`ts, which did not have a problem protecting the young nation.
Unlike you in Iran, our elections are violence free & open. If we as a democracy decide to vote in the religious, whether to the Left or Right, it is the collective decision.
On the otherhand while your people may have become more secular you choices are still between "reformist" religious and "Fanatical" religious parties.
I hope for success for the elements of secularism in your country, be well.
