Hungarians were faithful allies of the Germans, who went to war against the Soviets in gratitude to the Germans, after the Germans allowed the Hungarians to grab back some formerly Hungarian territories that they lost to their neighbours in consequence of having ended up on the loosing side in the first world war.

The second Hungarian army group, which used tens of thousands of Hungarian Jewish slave labourers for dangerous tasks under horrific conditions, did not participate in Stalingrad, but suffered a crushing defeat on the Don River front at the hands of the Soviets, and ultimately its losses mounted to around two hundred thousand dead.

The Hungarians and their army remained Hitler`s faithful allies until the bitter end, Hitler`s last non-German allies, and continued the bitter fight beside German units until the very end of the war.
