"What you think will be the effect if Israel reacts too late to realization of the West bank trap?" (S. Connor) Too late? If you mean "too late for implementing the 2-state formula", the effect can only be the sorry end of the Zionist enterprise.
"There is such a zealous attachment to Judea and Samaria and even the Golan by the settlers. I am not sure [...] that they will be able to mobilize quickly enough to avoid the trap." (S. Connor) If "they" is for the Israelis, neither do I am sure. They have this unfortunate habit of letting fear dictate their decisions. Our leadership has much to answer for this collective mindset.
If what you mean is "the settlers", then oh yes they are able to mobilize quickly. Very quickly. They are used to it. "Peres warns evacuation of settlers may lead to civil war" by Anshel Pfeffer, 20/11/2008. www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1038961.html
"A state [...] changes direction excruciatingly slowly." (S. Connor) I am not sure this is always true - especially in time of crisis. See how Oslo was accepted here, by the general public. Think de Gaulle and change of direction in Algeria, Gorbachev and the fall of the Soviet Union.
This said, I am quite pessimistic. Every folly and its cost. The (unavoidable) end of our way too long settlement adventure, and the turmoil it will cause in the country may exact from us a very high price. May it only not break our national backbone. |
