| `Does Israel have a greater existential strategic asset than its relations with the U.S. and its neighbors` understanding that these intimate relations are unshakable?` Yes, Mr Eldar, Israel does. It`s called `national sovereignty`, and it allows a nation to act independently in the defence of its survival. It is fascinating that one of today`s newspapers in Los Angeles carried a story about President Obama`s Defence Secretary, Robert Gates, giving warning the US would not sit idly by as North Korea develops nukes and the missiles which could deliver them to US cities. What absolute hypocrisy that the Obama Administration forbids Israel to act in self-defence against a similarly-threatening Iran. Yes, Mr Eldar, Israel can - and should - `blow off the US`, and handle the existential threat of Iran, just as the US would face one from North Korea: Without a by-your-leave from a tut-tutting world.
