The Turkish Fest in Chicago last week featured arts and crafts from southeast Turkey, "Mardin". The DVD I took home showed the churches of the Assyrians and Chaldeans who still live there. I am sure some were selling their wares at the festival. However, if you look at their past, 3/4 of the Christian Assyrians, as well as the Christian Armenians were massacred. Turkey is made up of many minorities; Mardin has Kurds, arabs, Assyrians. Unfortunately, many Turks don`t know their own history and what happened to these minorities. It is a question of how Turkey will treat its minorities in the future.
