I spent a year in Israel as a US contractor, and was impressed by the lightning speed with which Israelis adopt new military tactics and technology. A new technology appears on the world market and both the civilian population and the military have integrated it within a month.

A drill of this magnitude in a country of over 7 million people is extremely impressive and would be virtually impossible in the US. Look at what happened with Katrina? An enormous national disaster, and US citizens begin raping and killing one another. Texas takes in the refugees, and the crime rates of Houston, Austin and Dallas skyrocket.

Contrary to what the Israelis themselves say, I believe Israel is one of the safest countries on the planet. Aside from the 5000 battle tanks, 750 aircraft, the Arrow missile defense, and 1.3 million trained military personel, they have this uncanny ability to learn from their mistakes and exponentially increase their effectiveness in a nanosecond. Impressive.
