| One must feel inordinate pity for the plight of Alilza, the haredi divorcee struggling to raise children in an intolerant and unsympathetic society. However Aliza`s joy at possibly having found a suitable match in "a bachelor from a Hassidic family who studies at one of the most prestigious yeshivas in the country" should give her pause. After all, marrying a man like this means she will have one more mouth to feed (not including any further children she will have with her unemployed beau) and most likely one with a taste for expensive American cigarettes which will rob at least an additional 700 shekels a month from her meager resources -- money desperately needed to feed and clothe her children. |
