Herb, you write " A statesman would understand that without a freeze on the `settlements`, as well as freedom of movement of civilians there is simply no room for dialog. The fact that the Israeli government can`t figure that one out on their own is stunning."

I think the answer is very clear. The Israeli government has no intention of engaging in any real negotiations. They will only really head to the table when it becomes clear that 1) real sanctions will be brought against them if they do not or 2) continuing to prevent any real progress in the "peace process" counts against their own domestic electoral interests.

At present neither of these factors apply. Netanyahu and his ilk have no real desire for peace. The status quo suits them very well indeed, I`m afraid.
