It`s hard to believe that the Israeli legislature takes the time and luxury to deal with semantics. After all, the Jewish character of the state cannot be legislated; it is, and whoever has problems with it has the right to voice their disagreement. At the same time we read that the West Bank rabbis urge publicly soldiers to disobey their orders. This is inciting for rebellion. Is this not a worthier cause to debate at the Knesset? It undermines the foundations of the state more than idle talk about the jewishness of the country. |
