Moslems, Jews and Christians in Israel have a large number of religious holidays, celebrated by secular and religious alike.
These holidays find expression in public education in the subjects learned, the holidays taken off school, and various scholastic activities. These holidays make up the fabric of life in Israel, be it for Jews, Moslems or Christians, in their own ways and expressions.
Now something can be said about Jews not learning Arabic language or culture, and visa versa, but that is another topic.
Just as Jewish children will not want to celebrate every Moslem and Christian holiday, if at all, so would it be inappropriate for Jews to force Moslems and Christians to celebrate and observe Jewish holidays. Bible study is a part of secular education, as well.
A different and integrated education system might be an interesting idea, but then, there is also the right Israelis to study in their own cultural context. |
