| While working in South Africa, I and my Jewish boss had to attend a conference in Dubai. While reading the English local paper, he laughed when read a news clip from occupied Jerusalem. He was surprised to learn that Jerusalem is occupied. Yes in 1967 Jerusalem was occupied by force just like the other parts of the West Bank,Gaza and Golan heights. It might be a surprise for many Jews who were fed somehow to believe that just by having the city run under civic, not military rule, and by annexing it to Israel, and due to its religious importance in Judaism, makes the city ligally Israeli and gives it the liberated states. Nevertheless, the city is religiously just as important for 2 Billion Christians, and 1.5 Billion Muslems. Nationally, it is rooted in the hearts of all 10 million Palestinians as much as it is rooted in the hearts of Israeli Jews. It is also nationally important for 300 million Arabs as it is fot 16 Million Jews. It is not as simple as Israel Harel wants it to be. |
