"U.S. would like to see is for Israel to decide at this meeting to ease its restrictions on imports and exports of goods to Gaza."

The outgoing Olmert govt already "decided" that.

The IDF tightened restrictions.

Bibi will agree, again, to a decision that had already been made.

And the IDF will respond by tightening the restrictions. Again.

Simple as that, really.

"Obama`s efforts to persuade Arab states to begin taking steps toward normalization, without waiting for a full-fledged Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement."

There is no way that the Arabs will agree, because they know that Netanyahu will be "delighted" to take that recognition and then walk away from those talks.

They know it.
Bibi knows it.
Obama must know it.

The best he can hope for is that the Arabs will agree to exchange "non-papers" with Israel on the mechanics of normalization, and Bibi can spin that to the public as "a breakthrough".

That might be possible.
