ALL the people in the Levant spoke Hebrew in various forms inancient times--and our Isrelite ancestors WERE Canaanites. Abraham, Moses, David--none of them were monotheists--monotheism does not appear in the Tanach until the later chapters of Isaiah. Our ancient Israelite ancestors would have thought us quite strange. But they are are heritage--they AND the Phoenecicians, Ammonites, Jebbusites, Edomites, etc.
