| Obama should give Netenyahu till the end of the year to evacuate settlements in the West Bank (not to mention taking stepsto end wholesale discrimination against Israel`s arab citizens) if he wants to see any F-35s or next years billion-odd dollars in military assistance. It is difficult to envisage an existential threat posed by a Palestinian state-other than to the Greater Israel cherished by unrepentant right-wing zionists of Mr Netanyahu`s ilk. Neither has he made clear why Iran could not be detered by Israel`s vast nuclear arsenal. The only threat posed by either is to the free-hand desired by Mr Netanyahu to shape the region as he pleases. With the right policies, threats and even violence aimed at Israel and her citizens could be far more easily neutralised than Mr Netenyahu would have us believe as long standing peace agreements with Jordan and Egypt have shown. |
