Natanyahu will likely follow the bazar merchant tactics when he meets Obama. His first offer will be NO PALESTINIAN STATE AT ALL, then (Bibi hopes) after long negotiations he will offer the semi-statelet of his conception: Gaza plus 60-80% of the West Bank, and excluding east Jerusalem. This will be rejected of course, but he will claim at this point that this was a "painful" concession and a great change from his initial position, so he should be seen as a "moderate" peacenik (thus blaming the Arabs).
The only problem is that this bazar tactic is now seen merely as a cheap trick. Perhaps Obama should seriously suggest to Bibi to either follow a sort of Geneva initiative plan or annex the whole of the territories and grant Israeli citizenship to its inhabitants. If Obama buys Bibi`s game, the 2 states solution will really be dead. |
