One of few things about Islam helpful to the Jews is the difficulties Muslims raise against themselves. The Hamas-Fatah is just a miniature version of the Mother of all schisms, the Shiite-Sunni divide.
Why is strife so highly valued in this culture as opposed to most cultures which quickly meet, iron out blips, and get back quickly to the task of improving life?
My opinion, as an armchair anthropologist, is the the harsh desert environment of the Mid East creates a unique situation, where efforts to change one`s lot usually fail. e.g, you sweep sand to tidy up your place, and the next sandstorm ...
So, failing to tame nature, a substitute paradigm is nurtured: Small but identifiable differences are habitually magnified into problems which CAN be solved, generally by coercion or if necessary, by force. Thus, the feelings of impotence viz nature are assuaged. Over the millennia, a permanent societal feature is established. Not so useful to Muslims, great for all else. |
