`... the president ... said if the overtures [offering Iran an opportunity to align itself with international norms and rules] to the Islamic Republic failed, "The fact that we have tried will strengthen our position in mobilizing the international community, and Iran will have isolated itself."
By which time, Iran may have nuclear weapons and long-range delivery systems. So the best-case scenario may be something alike to N Korea`s situation today: Iran an outcast amongst nations - dangerous, unpredictable, nuclear-armed. And capable of wreaking havoc in the Mid East and even Europe.
My suggestion to Mr Obama would be to continue the diplomatic track, with a `reality check` right after Iran`s June presidential election:
If the election places a relative moderate in power, the diplomatic track may continue with at least some modest hope of success.
If the hard-liners (and their stalling tactics) are returned, it`s time for a pre-emptive strike against Iran.
