| Well we saw that the delay in concrete negotiations with the Kadima led Government only to advance somewhat later, brought us once again no agreement between the Palestinians and Israel. Unfortunately we`ve been at this stage only too long and it`s not in anyone`s interest to defer the difficult compromises which are inevitable, two states along the 1967 border. When King Abdullah of Jordan just proposed that 57 Muslim states would recognize Israel, that is, the Jewish state, what`s there to think about? Would the U.S. really accept further delays to concrete steps which are required for implementation of the peace process? How is all this helping the younger generations of the region already skeptical of coexistence? Days ago while teaching I encountered a new Canadian immigrant - an orphaned Muslim, 14 year old from Kabul, Afghanistan, quite intelligent, pleasant, curious - really a nice kid, but he was only familiar with the concept of Philistina and Gaza, not Israel...Why? |
