At least the current Pope cannot be accused of being a holocaust denier.
However he failed to criticise past holocaust deniers such as Mahmoud Abbas, leader of the Palestinian Authority and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iranian leader. Perhaps he considers that to be far too political...
Pope Pius XII during WWII also failed criticise the perpetrators of the holocaust and millions were murdered accompanied by Pope Pius XII`s silence. Perhaps he considered that to be too political... Well his silence did definitely prolong one life, his own.
I might add that I had some relatives who were hidden by good Catholics in Europe during the holocaust. Sometimes the flock know the way when the shepherd is lost...
I don`t know much about Catholicism but Papal "infallibility" is an interesting concept. The first Pope was supposed to be a Jew, married and said he never knew Jesus but did he say that he was infallible?
At least one of the Mahmouds and one Pope have recognised the Shoah. |
