The holocaust happened. No one with any intelligence who has bothered to study the relvant history denies it or substantially questions the numbers widely used. Show me someone who denies the holocaust and I`ll show you an idiot.
But can there possibly be a more fundamental human right than the right to think and say what one believes? Let the government control this and it will be used to bury the truth more often than save it.
The truth is often illusive and controversial. Views of history change. This won`t happen with holocaust, but the precedent of writing history in stone must be rejected. No exceptions.
The marketplace of ideas works only with free speech. The holocaust is well documented and taught. No reasonable, informed person denies it. There will alwasy be propaganadists, but better for their lies to be public where they can be denounced than secret in the dark. the deniers in fact assure further discussion - and refutation. |
