"A Catholic friend of mine said her parish priest once again made that charge in his sermons this past Easter season. And then there is Mel Gibson`s film, which again restates the accusations. As for the artifacts. there is a arch in Rome that displays the Roman soldiers carrying off the golden menorah that was in the Second Temple. Does it still exist or was it melted down to make crucifixes for bishops to carry"
Well the loonies are in out in full force for this one. As has already been pointed out, Vatican II comprehensively rejected the libel of deicide, and I suspect your "friend" who claims a priest is giving this sort of sermon exists only in your fevered imagination. As for Mel Gibson, well yes, I suppose he does get his marching orders directly from the Pope doesn`t he? By the way, the Second Temple period ended well before the birth of Christ and a few hundred years before Christianity actually became the accepted religion in the Roman Empire. |
