| The first question to ask of any scientific study is, "Who is the sample population being tested?" All of the men whose sperm are being studied are volunteers to donate sperm. The ultra-orthodox Jews who father 6-12 children are not part of this sample, because, while artificial insemination is permitted under orthodox law, "spilling seed" is not. In fact, haredi rabbis greatly prefer that semen used for artificial insemination in their community not even come from a Jew. A parallel sociological study is needed to determine what changes have taken place among men choosing to become sperm donors, not just their sperm, before drawing any conclusions. |
