... and one that is seldom, if ever, mentioned. It is this: the USA knows that if Israel looks like losing getting defeated in a conventional war then it *will* reach for the nukes. So regardless of the rights or wrongs of that conflict - i.e. regardless of wether or not Israel was the aggressor - the USA simply can`t allow Israel`s conventional forces to be defeated. That was the main reason for Operation Nickel Grass during the Yom Kippur War i.e. Nixon did nothing to help Israel UNTIL he got news that Israeli nukes were being loaded onto IDF jets. The next thing you know the entire US arsenal was winging its way towards Israel. It emboldens Israel, because it is a bully that can never lose - because the moment it looks like losing Uncle Sugar steps in with assistance, however reluctantly.
