Actually -it is wrong to assume that just because Jews today use the date since Year 1 of the Hebrew historical calendar (alleged date from Creation) to date events-that they used that back in 74 C.E. or 138 C.E...in fact the usual method of dating earlier in Jewsish history from that was with reference to some king`s regnal dates.. Or back earlier to pre-Exodus time-keeping where the Torah makes statements of how many years`s they were in Egypt. IN FACT --the use of the hebrew Year commonly accepted calendar date is probably a lot more recent --perhaps developed in the Misnah period or maybe even in medieval rabbinic times.I am not certain which rabbi and when it was firo authoritately stated this is year "-" of the Hebrew calendar (which began in 3761 B.C.E. if you are converting to that dating system). In any case -the rabbis are wrong. 3761 B.C.E. may be year 1 of the Hebrew time count-but that is not the date of creation(eg, the earth is over 5 billion years old, dinosaurs etc.) |
