Israel?s IAF does not have the capability to stop Irons nuclear weapons program. Israel does not even know if Iran has one.
Further, any strike that could be made by the IDF, without overflying adjacent countries, would not make a significant difference, or be more than a nuisance strike, and would not stop any nuclear program. It would most definitely cause Iran to develop the weapons that Israel fears so.
The only way to make a stronger strike would be to violate the airspace of neighboring countries: 1) Jordan-Saudi Arabia; 2) Jordan ?Iraq; 3) Syria ?Iraq; 4) Syria ?Turkey; 5) Turkey.
America will prevent transit across Iraq, options 2 & 3. It is required to do so by the SOFA agreement.
Turkey, option 4&5 would break ties with Israel if the IAF transited its airspace.
That leaves option 1... It is unlikely that Saudi would not act to prevent over flight of it borders. Saudi or Syria might be surprised by the first transit, but would be prepared for any return transit. In addition the refueling aircraft would be vulnerable.
The Begin policy of not allowing any neighboring states to have any nuclear capability has been mooted by, time and technology.
But in any case, Israel seems hell bent to start a war with Iran. I*ll get my popcorn and watch.
Israel is bluffing hoping like a child that someone will make them stop. |
