I don`t understand why people say that there is only a short window in which to achieve a two state solution. The purported rationale is that some day soon, a majority of the people between the Mediterranean and the Jordan River will be Arabs, not Jews. So what. What`s so magical about this. The Palestinians do not have the physical power now to implement a binational single state, and are not ever expected to ever have such power even if they become a majority of the population in the land between the sea and the river. Thus, what matters is what a majority of the people in sovereign Israel want to do, and as long as a majority of that population is Jewish, it will not commit national suicide by agreeing to a binational state.
The populations of Greece and Turkey were once mixed up among the territory of the two states. Do we hear anyone calling for a binational state combining both countries. Of course not. |
