Neither Jordan nor Gaza seem too interested in a binational state that includes the West Bank as a partner, let alone an equal partner. Even Egypt balks at letting Gaza join its polity. How does Benvenisti hope to win them over? ;-)
Yes - I know exactly what Benvenisti means, but however the lack of an honest examination of these options shows the dishonesty of his approach. Gaza and the West Bank need to think in terms of responsibly making it on their own rather than depending on handouts from UNRWA and others. His last line is telling "the burden will fall on us" - it reminds one of the phrase "white man`s burden" - a paternalistic phrase that infantilizes the other. |
