| The criticism of the narrow views of Mr. Litzman are justified, but in the last paragraphs, the traditional Ashkenazi prejudice and despise of all things "East" and "Middle East" are totally unwarranted. "Western," "modernity," superior"-- these are all code words that have been used for many decades to refer to "European." Israel is not European and should, without mockery or prejudice, find its dutiful place in the Middle East. |
