I certainly wouldn`t have gone about it the same way Mr. Litzman did, but there is a school of thought, (with proof of cases) in Jewish custom that changing the name of a sick person, changes certain attributes of him, and he recovers.
This has also been applied to places that have seen conflict.
Changing the name of a virus is an extension of that idea, and perhaps the hope (and prayer) is that this may neutralise it.
What have you got to loose? Let him change the name, keep clean, pray and realise that everything happens for a reason in this world, there is no randomness. |
