In 1918 a number of non-Jews also felt uncomfortable refering to their loved ones as having been stricken by swine. I grew up hearing that my 27 year old grandmother and my father`s 6 year old sister had died of Spanish Flu. That was the term used in our U.S. History books as well.
Now - on this night of all nights - we should learn to love our fellow Jews and not mock them in our publications, even when we disagree with them. Otherwise, what worth is it to honor our soldiers and memorialize the victims of terror and celebrate another anniversary of the State of Israel if we cannot respect each other? |
