It is basic. It is Jewish. It is essential. Yes.

But it also underscores how insenstive the reform movement basically continues to be on the beauty and preciousness of tradition, observance and Miztvot. TIKKUN OLAM has been replacing Torah. But you don`t need to be a Jew to do Tikkun Olam. You can belong to Greenpeace and completely assimilate. You can fight AIDS and cooperate with Darfur victims, and give and ignore the depth of Jewishness. TIKKUN OLAM as "THE VALUE" is a shame. It is the tombstone for the Jewishness of an historically creative movement, that has given us the equality of women, returned instrumental music to synagogue, and allowed for harmony between being Jewish and being part of larger society.
The reform movement has thus lost too much of its raison d`etre.
