Cyprus has been a two-state solution since the Turkish Army rolled into two-fifths of the island, and split the capital into a Greek zone and a Turkish zone.
They still don`t like each other. They never liked each other. Then the Greek Republic of Cyprus was offered to join the EU. All of sudden the Turks developed a linking for Greeks, or, the Greek Republic of Cyprus. There was plebiscite regarding the unification of the island. The two sides had to agree to the recreate what was a binational country before 1974. The Turks were willing to get back, but the Greeks sill didn`t care much for Turks, or their republic.
Why should Israel want anything that resembles Cyprus, if the Greek majority doesn`t want to deal with Turks, why should Israelis feel any differently towards the Palestinian Arabs. |
