This ranting Iranian is afraid of Elie Weisel and what he represents. For him and his ilk, Elie Weisel represents what they cannot come to terms with and what they attempt to deny: that there was a Holocaust, that people like Elie Wiesel lived to survive it, to tell the story, and perpetuate the memories of those who did not, and that the Jewish people remain stronger and unified and have a state of their own that we built and defend. Elie Wiesel has lived to become a renowned figure of not only the Jewish people but of all those throughout the world who fight for justice. What Iran has shown of itself at Burben is another matter altogether.
We know who will leave Durben in pride and dignity and who will leave in shame. This dispicable conference has left a stain on the image of Switzerland and has shown the depths of vile behavior to which people stoop. |
