| I assume that, by Oriental, you mean separdic in origin. Almost one million Jews were driven out of Arab countries with only the clothing on their backs once Israel was founded. Most of these came to Israel and about half of Israel`s current population are descended from these people. Since that time, other "Oriental" Jews have moved to Israel. In addition, there have been migrations of Jews from Italy, a sephardic community as well, though not Oriental. In case you hadn`t noticed, sephardic refers to a Spanish origin, so many of the people from Poland, Holland etc, came originally from Spain and, like my own family, retained their sephardic traditions, even though by your biased thinking they would be considered ashkenazi (which comes from the Hebrew term for Germany) |
