I am sympathetic to Abu-Aun, his family, and the other Palestinians who are living in desperate conditions as a result of the recent war. I do, however, think that this is an indication of how the world views the Israel-Arab conflict. People are quick to blame Israel for the violence (and overlook the "primitive" methods the Palestinians use to attack), but when it comes to the welfare of Abu-Aun and his neighbors, nobody lifts a finger.
Israel deserves some of the blame for not allowing building materials in, but the Palestinian leadership, specifically Hamas, finds it more pressing to fight Israel than help out their own population. The rest of the Arab world, which is so quick to denounce Israeli "massacres" and "war crimes", pledges money that never shows up, and keeps their own Palestinian refugees herded in refugee camps in conditions almost as bad (if not worse).
Oh, and Gideon? Inciting the Palestinians to resume rocket fire is beyond outrageous. |
