Israel has long put too much trust in the US, undercutting its own sovereign interests. And too many US Jews put their faith in Obama. It`s all falling apart, but they don`t see it yet.
Bush, in his June 2002 statement, laid out expectations of the Palestinians before they would merit US support. All of that has now been shunted aside. Democratic institutions? Not needed. End to incitement? Just talk. Ending terror and dismantling militant groups? Too complicated.
The US claims committed to Israeli security, but they deny Israel what it needs to defend itself. The US claims it stands for "two states for two nations". They expect Israel to recognize the Palestinian and their right to a state, but for Palestinians to acknowledge Israel as a Jewish homeland, well, we can`t expect them to accept that!
So in other words, NOTHING is expected from the Palestinian side. The current US leadership is too obtuse to recognize that they are only encouraging its own enemies. Shame on them! |
