F35 is overrated for sales purposes. Its manouvering is not as good as the F16, external fuel tanks needed for long journeys come at the expense of stealth
At $100 - $200 million each even if we get a special offer on the first 25 what happens when we want to increase the fleet as more current generation of aircraft need to be retired?
The thing can`t carry Israeli made weapons which comes at an extra indirect cost to the economy. If the IAF can`t don`t buy Israeli made missiles will it be financially viable to carry on missile development?
The things won`t be ready for delivery till at least 2014 so using Iran as justification to buy doesn`t add up
The F35 might suit the US and all the various missions they carry out around the world, Israel doesn`t need F35 it needs a capable plane that will suit its different needs. Better to eventually replace F16 with a European plane like Typhoon Eurofighter or SAAB Gripen. A air superiority fighter of the future could possibly be the F15 SE |
