| If Arabs were about 2 per cent, then maybe it would be OK to call Israel a Jewish state, but you can`t ignore 1 in 5 Israelis, 20 per cent of the people. You just can`t do that in any kind of sane Western democracy. It would be like claiming Great Britain was an English state. The English ARE 80 per cent of Britons, but somehow I don`t think the Welsh and Scots would be too happy about being told they`re living in an English state. The Arabs are too big a percentage of Israelis to be told they`re strangers in their own country. Israel isn`t a Jewish state. It should be a state for all Israelis. |
