The route of the fence in many places creates the seamline zone - an area east of the Green Line and the real border and west of the fence. Palestinians must therefore pass through checkpoints in these places in order to get from one place in the West Bank to another, and not to enter Israel. This is where the purpose of the "security" fence is deceptive. It separates Palestinians from their own territory and does not serve as a real legitimate border crossing point.
ON the other hand, I will add here that I am dismayed that this protest is using a letter written by a South African activist describing apartheid, rather than something written by Palestinians themselves. Why are they not writing their own protest letter? Why borrow others`? Why borrow terms like apartheid instead of objecting to the occupation here? It`s time the Palestinians took up their own pen and wrote something of their own on the wall. |
