| I accept the notion that both morality and self interest justify the imposition of sanction on states that make no genuine effort to make peace and include extremists in government. So, let`s quickly look at the situation. Hamas`s Charter is dedicated to the destruction of Israel and the killing of all Jews. This central mission is not merely a paper mission as the 10,000 plus rockets, suicide bombers and other violent forays suggest. Lieberman looks like a saint, a peacenick compared to all of that and certainly Israeli governments have repeatedly indicated their committment to a peaceful solution. All that is required from any state seeking to pressure the parties or to respond to a lack of commitment by parties to peace is balance. The absence of balance does suggest some other agenda, doesn`t it! |
